State Route 76 (US 79)

Gibson and Carroll counties
Gibson Carroll SR 76

The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is contructing and proposing to construct improvements to State Route 76 (US 79) in Carroll County. The project along SR 76 involves widening and realignment of the existing roadway for approximately 12.6 miles. Due to the size of the project, the proposed improvements have been divided into three smaller sections.

The purpose of the project is to improve the route from Milan in Gibson County to McKenzie in Carroll County. The proposed project alignments are the result of a concerted effort to maximize safety, reduce adverse human and environmental impacts, and increase traffic capacity.  The improvements will include widening SR 76 and realigning it to the southeast of Atwood and Trezevant.

Current Status: Phase 1 is under construction. Phase 2 is scheduled to begin construction in Fiscal Year 2024.

Construction start: Varies

Estimated completion*: Varies

Funding Type: All three sections of this project were identified in the IMPROVE Act. Section 1 was funded with 80% federal dollars and 20% state dollars.
