NASHVILLE – Governor Bill Haslam and Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner Burns Phillips have awarded $749,200 in job training grants to 37 companies across the state. Incumbent Worker Training grants assist employers with upgrading skills and avoiding layoffs for their employees.
NASHVILLE – Tennessee Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner Burns Phillips announced today Tennessee’s preliminary unemployment rate for January is 7.2 percent, which is five tenths of one percentage point lower than the December revised rate. The national unemployment rate for January 2014 was 6.6 percent, down one tenth of one percentage point from December.
NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development is instructing more than 18,000 Tennesseans whose federal benefits expired in January 2014 to discontinue weekly unemployment certifications. The department had asked claimants to continue weekly certifications through mid-February in the event Congress extended federal unemployment benefits called Emergency Unemployment Compensation or EUC.

The national unemployment rate for December 2013 was 6.7 percent, down three tenths of one percentage point from November.
NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration has 70 upcoming safety and health training seminars at several locations throughout the state. Classes range from the basics of safety, recordkeeping, and writing safety programs to courses that lead to OSHA certifications.
