Duplicate Title
A duplicate title can be obtained in person or by mail through your local county clerk’s office. Lienholders and out-of-state applicants should apply through the office of the county clerk of the owner’s last Tennessee residence.
Required documentation for a duplicate title includes:
- Multi-purpose, Noting of Lien, and Duplicate Title Application;
- $14 fee (additional county fees may apply); and
- proof that all liens have been discharged for the vehicle.*
Requests made in person also require:
- proof of identification;
- power of attorney from the owner and proof of identification for requests made by someone other than the vehicle owner.
*If any liens remain, a duplicate title request must originate from the lienholder. The duplicate title will then be sent to first lienholder on record.
