About the Event

The Creativity in Education Institute, Create2013, is a national premiere professional development event for educators. When did imagination, play, creativity, sensory experiences, and emotional connection become secondary to rote learning? While innovation and engagement should be the hallmark of public education, sadly they get lost in a system that emphasizes product over process. At Create2013, you will hear thought-provoking speakers, hone your own higher order thinking skills, and interact with teachers, principals, students, and artists from across the country. Together, we can make a difference, one educator at a time.

This year’s conference will emphasize the Arts at the Core of learning with the arts as academic subjects and part of the core curriculum. Attend sessions on Arts Integration and Common Core and the Arts and learn ways to help your students gain cognitive, social, and emotional skills by offering a curriculum rich in the arts.

The MindBenders Series: Led by nationally known artists, these performances and presentations will challenge, provoke and inspire ideas about the role of creativity and the arts in schools.

Workshops: Focused on current trends, research and special topics related to creativity, arts integration, cognition, and arts education. Geared toward specific participants such as grade level tracks, administrators, special education teachers, and technology.

Tutorials: Two-hour workshops exploring in-depth arts integration strategies, instructional methodologies, and/or research.

Lesson Demos:  Sessions featuring demonstrations of lesson plans that illustrate effective ways to integrate the arts into non-arts content areas, as well as “reverse” integration, showing how arts specialists can link to non-arts content without losing the integrity of their art form. These include connections to grade-level curriculum standards and assessment measures. A practical way to see arts integration in action.

Arts Experiences:  With arts experiences, participants are immersed in dance, music, drama, visual art, creative writing, and folk and ethnic art forms. A wonderful way to build personal knowledge and fundamental skills in a variety of art forms.
