The Visual Art, Craft, and Media Program is dedicated to supporting and creating opportunities for the visual art, craft, and media organizations and individual artists across the state of Tennessee. Through the Commission's grant programs and initiatives, financial and technical assistance is offered to a variety of art and non-arts organizations. Supporting the work of individual artists is an important aspect of this program, from the individual artist fellowships awarded in visual art, craft, and media each year, to professional development support grants and the rotating exhibitions featuring Tennessee artists in the Tennessee Arts Commission Gallery. Named the “Best Exhibition Series” in Nashville by the Nashville Scene, the TAC Gallery is committed to presenting diverse and challenging shows of consistently strong work that spans from visual art and traditional craft to conceptual installations and video art. This program is also charged with facilitating the state's public art program, which includes ongoing commissions for state facilities as well as the thirteen works of public art at the Tennessee Welcome Centers. The Visual Art, Craft, and Media Program works on numerous special projects, which include managing select acquisitions for the State of Tennessee 's permanent art collection along with other initiatives and commissions that support the work of Tennessee artists.
