Tennessee's State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP)

SHIP logo

The Tennessee State Health Insurance Assistance Program is a statewide program that provides free and objective counseling and assistance to persons with questions or problems regarding Medicare and other related health insurances.

In Tennessee, SHIP operates through the state's nine Area Agencies on Aging & Disability (AAADs). These agencies offer a variety of services besides SHIP, all aimed at helping persons who are elderly and/or have disabilities to live better lives.

SHIP is funded by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), an agency of the federal government under the Department of Health & Human Services. Every state, as well as Washington, D.C.

and two U.S. territories, has a SHIP. We work to give accurate and helpful information. When we are not

able to answer a question or solve a problem, we refer to other agencies and resources. We do our best

to give consumers the help that they need.

Need help paying for your prescription drugs? You may be able to get extra help to pay for the premiums, annual deductible, and co-payments related to the Medicare Prescription Drug program. However, you must be enrolled in a Medicare Prescription Drug plan to receive this additional help. Call SHIP today to learn more.

CAUTION MEDICARE CONSUMERS: If you have Medicare, you do not need to purchase health insurance through the Marketplace. Your Medicare coverage, whether received through a Medicare Advantage plan or through original Medicare, isn't changing because of the Affordable Care Act and the Marketplaces. You will still need to review your Medicare coverage during the Annual Enrollment Period, October 15-December 7th for your 2014 coverage. TN SHIP is available to help you compare plans available in your area. Call 1-877-801-0044 for help.
