Applications available on this site are for: Contractors (New/Renewal/Revisions); Home Improvement; Limited Licensed Electricians (LLE); Limited Licensed Plumbers (LLP); and Pre-licensed Course Providers.

1. Contractor APPLICATION (For Projects $25,000 OR more)

 

Types of Contractors: Building (Residential, Commercial, Industrial); Building Subcategories: Landscaping, Roofing, Excavation, etc.; Electrical (including low voltage/computer cabling/audio visual); Mechanical; Plumbing; HVAC; Highway, Railroad & Airport; Municipal Utility; Environmental; Specialty - Equipment Installation, Telecommunications, Cell Towers, Solar Panel Installation, etc.; Subcontractors: Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing, and HVAC subcontractors must obtain a "Contractor's" license for projects $25,000 and up). Contractor- initial Licensing Forms and Instructions

 

In order to obtain a new initial contractor's license, you will need the "Application" and "Exam" information below:

  • "Application" for Contractor's License (To obtain a new license; apply for a second or additional license; current license of an entity has had a merger, or change in ownership; reinstatement of expired license (over 12 months); and reorganization due to bankruptcy, etc.) (Note: To change a current license, where there have been no changes in ownership, use the "Revision" forms below to make changes, such as: Add a Classification; Increase (monetary limit); Name Change; or Mode of Operation change, such as sole proprietor to corporation, LLC, etc..)
  • "Exam" Information (Contractor) from PSI (Candidate Information Bulletin - CIB)



The above two (2) items are needed to obtain a new initial contractor's license. The items below provide additional information to specific inquires and are also included as part of the "Application" above:


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS


Deadline: Contractor's license applications must be received by the Board office prior to the deadline date which is the 20th of the month prior, to the Board meeting. Please allow 5 to 7 business days for mail delivery. More Board meeting information is available at the "Calendar" on the website.

 

2. Contractor - renewal / retirement Forms

 

Due Date: Contractor's licenses expire on the last date of the month, it which the license was issued, for two years. Renewals are required to be received in the Board office 30 days prior to the expiration date. Please allow 5 to 7 business days for mail delivery. A license cannot be renewed if expired 12 months. Must apply for a reinstatement utilizing the initial contractor's license application.

3. CONTRACTOR - REVISION REQUEST FORMS AND INSTRUCTIONS (Changes to Existing License)


 

Deadline: Contractor's license revision requests for: adding a classification; increase monetary limit; name change; and mode of operation changes, must be received by the Board office prior to the deadline date which is the last day of the month, prior to the Board meeting. Please allow 5 to 7 days for mail delivery.

 

4. BC-A/r LIMITED LICENSE - Restricted Residential ($70,000 and Less)

Steps to Applying for a Home Improvement License

Check with your local municipality and codes office. There is not a specific state license HVAC license for projects less than $25,000; a contractor's license with CMC-C classification is required for HVAC projects $25,000 or more. A Home Improvement license may be required in the above counties, where there is not a separate HVAC trade license required.


Deadline:

 

The only applications with a deadline for receipt are those which require Board approval, which are presented at the meetings listed on the "Calendar". "Contractors" are the only applicants requiring Board approval, unless, there have been complaints, convictions, or reinstatements of LLE to waive the exam. For an initial contractor's license, it must be received by the 20th of the month prior to the Board meeting. Revisions for contractors licenses are due by the end of the month, prior to the Board meeting.

 

(Note: A deadline date is required due to the timely review process it takes by staff to ensure the file is in correct order and complete to present at the next regularly scheduled Board meeting. (Rule 0680-1-.02)
