I. Contractor (Projects $25,000 and more)
A contractor's license applies to all types of work performed both as a prime (general) contractor, as well as many *subcontractor professions, when the contract or total bid is $25,000 and more. A contractor's license is required prior to offering to engage. License trades or classifications include, but not limited to, the following:
See "Contractor Classifications Outline" for more types of contractor classifications and whether a trade exam is needed. Note: A "prime" is defined as one bidding to the owner; a "subcontractor" bids to the prime.
*Subcontractors are required to be licensed for projects over $25,000 to perform Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical and HVAC.
**Effective 7/1/10, Masonry contractors must be listed on the outside of the bid envelope for projects $100,000 (including materials and labor). Effective 1/1/11, a masonry license is required as a subcontractor to bid or perform with an LMC classification.
