Legal Secretary | Civil Law Division

Overview:

The Civil Law Division handles personal injury and tort litigation involving the State in the Tennessee Claims Commission and state court; civil rights actions brought against state employees sued individually for monetary damages in federal or state court; and workers’ compensation actions filed by state employees.

Duties Include:

  • Answers telephone calls and directs them to the appropriate person
  • Formats and types letters and documents for approval and use by attorneys
  • Processes confidential and sensitive legal documentation and correspondence
  • Maintains calendars
  • Schedules appointments and meetings
  • Sorts incoming documents and directs them to the appropriate person
  • Develops and maintains division records and files
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma and two years of administrative support experience
  • Preferred:  Paralegal certification
