Tennessee Exemplary Educators Program

The Tennessee Exemplary Educators Program, an initiative of the Office of Innovation, Improvement, and Accountability, provides assistance to Tennessee’s High Priority schools. Exemplary Educators assist High Priority schools by modeling innovative teaching strategies, serving as mentors to principals and teachers, analyzing student performance data, connecting with professional development providers, and building capacity for continuous school improvement.

What is the Tennessee Exemplary Educators Program?

The Tennessee Exemplary Educators Program is administered by the Edvantia, Inc., through a grant from the Tennessee Department of Education. The purpose of the program is to provide additional support to those schools in greatest need to improve student achievement, attendance, and/or graduation rates.

Who will be selected as a Tennessee Exemplary Educator?

Edvantia selects Exemplary Educators from a pool of recently retired educators whose experience and expertise will be of tremendous benefit to the schools they are assigned to assist.

Who will be my employer?

Exemplary Educators are self-employed and serve as independent contractors with Edvantia. As an independent contractor, Exemplary Educators are responsible for paying all related income or social security taxes per Federal income tax laws and regulations.

How is the role of Tennessee Exemplary Educator defined?

The primary focus is on improved strategic planning, teaching, and learning. Participants will achieve this through modeling, mentoring, and assisting educational leaders and school councils in the reduction of barriers to making adequate yearly progress as determined by NCLB. Exemplary Educators place particular emphasis on building the capacity for continuous school improvement in the schools they assist.

What is the salary for a Tennessee Exemplary Educator? Time commitment?

Exemplary Educators are paid $300.00 per 7.5-hour day plus travel expenses consistent with state travel regulations. Exemplary Educators work a minimum of 100 days up to a maximum of 200 days per school year.

What is the salary for a Tennessee Exemplary Educator? Time commitment?

Exemplary Educators are paid $300.00 per day plus travel expenses consistent with state travel regulations. Candidates whose applications are chosen as a result of an initial screening process will then receive an interview before final selections are made.

Who can apply to be a Tennessee Exemplary Educator?

 

Applicants shall

  • Possess personal integrity
  • Have knowledge and understanding of current educational practice in Tennessee
  • Hold valid Tennessee certification
  • Have a minimum of 5 years experience as an educator
  • Have experience as an educator within the last five years
  • Be willing to travel

Additionally, applicants should demonstrate the ability to

  • Understand and use qualitative and quantitative data to develop strategic plans
  • Use good judgment when helping schools identify and solve problems
  • Work collaboratively with peers
  • Mentor and provide leadership
  • Model effective organizational and classroom practices
  • Use technology

Although the normal interview process occurs during the summer prior to the beginning of a new school year, interested educators are encouraged to complete the application materials and submit them throughout the year.
