Building-Level and System-Level TEACHERS OF THE YEAR 2008-2009 selection process must be completed. The finalists are notified. System finalists must complete Sections IV, V, and VI in preparation for Region-Level Competition.

System Directors or their designee submit SYSTEM TEACHERS OF THE YEAR applications (one system finalist for each: Pre K-4; 5-8; 9-12). Application must include Sections I-VI. Mail the application and nine copies to the appropriate SDE Field Service Center:

Memphis/Shelby (Memphis), Southwest (Lexington), Northwest (Martin), Mid Cumberland(Nashville), South Central (Columbia), Upper Cumberland (Cookeville), Southeast (Cleveland), East TN (Knoxville), First TN (Johnson City)

Region Judges will select the 2008-2009 Region Teachers of the Year, who will be notified no later than March 21, 2008.

Field Service Center Region Teachers of the Year must add Sections VII, VIII, IX and X of the application to participate in the Grand Division and State Competition and submit the original and 9 copies of all sections of their applications to:

Judges will select 9 of the region Teachers of the Year to receive an invitation to participate in interviews for State Teacher of the Year.

Nine State TOY candidates will be interviewed. Three Grand Division Teachers of the Year will be selected. One of the three will be named State Teacher of the Year.

The 2008 - 2009 Teacher of the Year will be announced at the awards banquet.
