Rutherford County Archaeological Society
About the Society:
The Rutherford County Archaeological Society (RCAS) is a registered non-profit association based in Murfreesboro,Tennessee welcomes you to share and experience the archaeology of the county and beyond. We are a diverse group composed of community members of varying ages and backgrounds, including local professional archaeologists. We recognize the significance of the past and enjoy the exciting and informative story archaeology provides–the story of us. RCAS also serves to foster a deeper understanding of the need to preserve and protect archaeological resources and the cultural heritage that unites us all.
Our free meetings are on the 4th Saturday of the month at noon, unless holidays or other circumstances necessitate changes. We meet at the Heritage Center of Murfreesboro and Rutherford County, 225 W. College St., Murfreesboro, TN 37130. Meetings feature our professional speaker series in which myriad topics are covered, including archaeology, anthropology, history, Native American culture, and related subjects. We also welcome members of the general public who would like to share their encounters with archaeology, history, and other cultures through travel, volunteerism, or study.
Activities and events such as archaeological site visitations, field trips, archaeological volunteer opportunities, informal get-togethers, classes, and community days are also a part of RCAS.
