Biking

There is a paved area that is a little over a mile long that is good for bikers and walkers.

Events and Programs

Rangers will provide programs for any group year-round upon request. During the summer months, programs covering a variety of natural and cultural history topics are scheduled weekly. Hayrides, campfires and many other fun and informative activities take place on the weekends. Canoeing the easy-flowing Duck River is great family fun. Scheduled day floats are conducted by park staff during the summer, or visitors may bring their own or rent canoes from a nearby outfitter.

Fishing

A valid Tennessee Fishing License is required for anglers 13 years of age and older. Local convenience stores sell the license as well as live bait.

Duck River anglers can catch largemouth and smallmouth bass, red-eye, and catfish among many other species.

Golfing

The Buford Ellington championship golf course at Henry Horton State Park is one of the finest courses in the state of Tennessee. The course measures 5,625 yards from the Forward tees and 7,020 yards from the Championship tees.

The golf course is an 18-hole championship par 72 course. It is only closed on holidays. The pro-shop has an excellent snack bar boasting the best hamburger in the area! The course also has a driving range. Rental clubs are available at the pro-shop. Call (931) 364-2319 to contact the pro shop.

Hiking

There are three easy-rated hiking trails at Henry Horton. The Hickory Ridge Loop is located near the campground and traverses habitats ranging from oak-hickory forest to unusual cedar glades. The Wilhoite Mill Trail follows the Duck River among second growth woods covering an early mill community. The Turkey Trail winds through rich woods and old fields.

Picnic Facilities

Henry Horton has 83 picnic sites in a very scenic picnic area located on the shores of the Duck River. Tables and grills are provided and water, restrooms, playgrounds, and playfields are located nearby.

There are 4 large group picnic pavilions located nearby, capable of accommodating 125 people and equipped with grills and water spigots.

Picnic shelters are available by reservation only! There is a small charge for three of the four shelters and no charge for the other. Please contact the park at 931-364-7724.

Playgrounds and Sports Fields

Playgrounds, and playfields are located near the picnic areas. Activities to enjoy at the park include volleyball, disc golf, baseball, basketball court, tennis and playground.

Professional Trap and Skeet Range

The Henry Horton Trap and Skeet Range includes five skeet fields, 2 trap fields and a lodge building with concessions. Gun rental and ammo are available. A picnic shelter is available for large shoots or related gatherings. No pullers provided. Must be 18 years of age or youth sportsman. A valid hunter education card required for shooters under the age of 18.

The Trap and Skeet Range at Henry Horton State Park will be closed for the winter beginning November 29, 2012 and will reopen on February 1, 2013.

Swimming

The park has an Olympic-sized pool with bathhouses and a concession stand. The pool is open from Memorial Day through August 12, 2012. Ample sunbathing space is provided with the pool area, and there is a wading pool for children. Lifeguards are on duty during swimming hours. As a public service, we offer swimming lessons for one week in late spring - early summer. Reservations are required and may be made by calling the park.

Pool hours Memorial Day through August 12, 2012: 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Closed Monday and Tuesday except Holidays. Please contact Henry Horton State Park office for the through the week closure dates.

Pool rate: Registered inn and cabin guests swim free. Camping guests will pay half price for admission to the pool with camping receipt.
