Tims Ford State Park, located on the Tims Ford Reservoir in the rolling hills of southern middle Tennessee, is an outstanding recreational area and fishing paradise. Long before the construction of Tims Ford Dam on the headwaters of the Elk River, the area was used extensively by the Indians as a hunting and fishing territory. Archaeological excavations uncovered numerous artifacts and occupational sites, indicating that man had occupied the area as much as 10,000 to 12,000 years ago.
The 10,700-acre Tims Ford Lake is one of the most picturesque in Tennessee and is regarded as one of the top bass fishing and recreational lakes in the Southeast.

The Bear Trace at Tims Ford is situated on a peninsula surrounded by picturesque Tims Ford Lake and provides several different looks from its range of tee locations. Opening holes are a blend of link-style creations that gently roll across former pastureland, and then gradually transition to wooded sites dominated by giant oak trees. The back nine presents a stronger test of each golfer's mettle and culminates with traditional Nicklaus bunkers and a deep-water shoreline of Tims Ford. In all, the Tims Ford Reservoir is visible from most holes on the course and comes into play on several of the 18 holes, giving the course an excellent balance of challenge and playability.
