Archaeological Sites: Johnston Site, located on the Forked Deer River in Madison County, Tennessee. It is suggested the mounds were constructed during the Middle Woodland period (200 BC 500 AD).
Historical Sites: Parkers Crossroads. The Battle of Parkers Crossroads, in Henderson County, is listed as one of Tennessee’s most significant battles as to the outcome of the war.
Natural Areas: Laurel Snow, located in Rhea County, TN. The natural area occurs on the Walden Ridge of the Cumberland Plateau and contains a section of a gorge that is deeply dissected by Morgan, Henderson, Laurel, and Richland Creeks.
Natural Area Managed by State Parks: Burgess Falls. This property is on the bluff overlooking the 136 foot high water fall, a significant landmark in Middle Tennessee.
State Parks: The Head of the Sequatchie, located in Cumberland County, TN. Named for a large cave spring that is the source of the Sequatchie River, the property is spectacularly framed by the Crab Orchard Mountains and flanks of the Cumberland Plateau and Walden’s Ridge.
