The State Employee Wellness Program is available to deliver the following programs for retreats, conferences, etc. We are not limited to the following programs and can tailor programs to your needs. We must have a minimum of 25 participants in order to conduct a seminar.
Bare Bones
Participants are given vital information on osteoporosis prevention and
treatment. The class covers bone development, risk factors (including those that
we do not have control over) and the four steps to prevention. (Lecture — 1 hour)
Basic Nutrition Facts
Participants are given information on how to incorporate healthy nutrition in
their lifestyle. Tips on how to read food labels, how to eat healthy at
restaurants and how to lose weight healthfully will also be given, along with
much more. (Lecture — 1 hour)
Cholesterol and Diabetes Myths
You have probably heard lots of research reports about cholesterol and diabetes. How do you know that it is factual? In this seminar we will separate fact from fiction as we explore some of the most common myths about cholesterol and diabetes. You will receive the most current, accurate information and research data and you will leave the seminar with ideas and handouts that include tips for lowering elevated cholesterol levels and health tips for diabetics. Whether you or a family member might be at risk for or diagnosed with high cholesterol and/or diabetes, the seminar will have information that you can use.
Fast Food Facts
Participants are given information, which focuses on making healthy choices when
eating at fast food restaurants. Alarming nutritional facts will be revealed,
along with new, healthier choices that restaurants are adding to their menus for
health conscious consumers. The overall focus is to guide you in making informed
decisions on what you are eating and to fit fast food into a balanced, healthy
diet.
Fit at Any Age
Discusses the benefits of proper exercise and nutrition to enhance the quality
of our lives as we age. (Lecture — 1 hour)
Fit Kids
Participants are given information about how to positively influence their
children's eating and physical activity levels. Making positive health choices
as a family can lead to the prevention of childhood weight gain, a growing
epidemic in the U.S. Participants are also given tips as to how they can help an
overweight child.
Healthy Eating on the Go
Participants will find the balance between their hectic schedule and planning nutritious meals. Information is included on breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner ideas as well as key recommendations for the new dietary guidelines. (Lecture — 1 hour)
Managing My Meds
Participants are given information on how to properly administer and track their
medications. Questions to ask your physician and pharmacist, as well as things
to remember to tell them are reviewed. Each participant will receive a handy
tool kit with which to track their medications. (Lecture — 1 hour)
On the Job Stress Analysis
Participants examine on the job stress including job related, relationships,
physical and organizational stressors and job expectations. (Interactive — 1 hour)
Oh, My Aching Back
Participants will be given information on how to maintain a healthy back along
with how to prevent and relieve back pain. (Lecture — 1 hour)
Personal Planning for Wellness/Wheel of Wellness
Optimal wellness extends far beyond physical well being. We will explore all areas: physical, emotional, social, intellectual, spiritual, occupational and/or financial. If we neglect or overemphasize one area, other areas of our lives will be affected. The key is to find a healthy balance. Participants will create their own personal wellness wheel and examine how well "balanced" they are in each of the areas of wellness. (Interactive program varying in length from 1 to 2
hours)
Ready to Quit
Participants who are ready to quit smoking will be given information on how to approach the challenge of
successfully kicking the habit for good. (Lecture — 1 hour)
Recharging Your Batteries
Light-hearted stress management seminar dealing with finding the balance in our
lives between stressors and energizers. Examples are given for achieving the
balance. (Interactive — 1 to 1 ½ hours)
Stress Management
Participants are given information on how to reduce stress along with tools and coping strategies to better manage the stressors they cannot control in their lives. (Lecture — 1 to 1 ½ hours)
Taking Shape
Participants learn how to properly design an exercise program based on their
goals and current fitness levels. Cardiovascular exercise, strength training, flexibility and nutrition are all
covered. Also discussed are roadblocks to exercise and ways to help
motivate you to exercise. (Lecture — 1 hour)
Taking Shape II
Participants are taught how to properly execute a strength-training program and
are given a series of exercises to use at home. (Physical participation — 1 ½ hours)
Workstation Ergonomics
Participants will learn how to improve workstation comfort and efficiency by
effectively organizing their workstation to reduce stress on the wrists, neck
and back. Tips on rest intervals and stretches to reduce repetitive stress
injuries will also be given. (Lecture — 1 hour)
