The Tennessee Lions in partnership with Volunteer Tennessee and the Tennessee Department of Education are providing free teacher trainings in the service-learning methodology.
Service-learning is an innovative teaching strategy that combines volunteer service and classroom instruction. According to a recent study, service-learning is currently in use in one-third of all US schools, and one-half of all US high schools! This workshop will equip high school educators with the skills and materials necessary to meet the state's standards and curriculum frameworks for course code 9395, "Success Skills through Service-Learning". Designed to provide a comprehensive experiential approach focusing on ethical, social and intellectual skill development of students, service-learning develops positive values like trustworthiness and responsibility, commitment to a task and to those who are involved in it, collaboration and team-building, punctuality, and respect for the quality of work done while serving the community. Lions-Quest International will train and provide materials valued at $500 at a cost of $35 to Tennessee educators through a grant from the Lions Clubs International Foundation and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
