Tennessee will put every school on a course to success.
Although we have seen success in moving schools off the High Priority list, the reality is that far too many of our schools continue to fall through the cracks. Through a desire and will to change the education landscape, new structures have been put into place to support the bold and innovative reforms necessary to support our schools most in need.

Schools categorized as Focus Schools in Tennessee’s accountability system are in School Improvement I and II. These schools will receive funding to institute turnaround services, but at a smaller scale.
Schools categorized as Renewal Schools in Tennessee’s accountability system are in Corrective Action and Restructuring. These schools have the potential to be included in the Achievement School District in future years. The Tennessee Department of Education established a vendor approval process to provide these schools with whole school reform services to assist in their turnaround implementation and the schools will receive funding to purchase these services.
College Access Network
Through Race to the Top, Tennessee wants to ensure that every student attends a school with a college-going culture. To support that effort, the state will establish a statewide college access network to make progress in the areas of education attainment, participation and affordability. This will be a systemic effort in college access and success.
