Office of Vital Records

The State Office of Vital Records will have representatives on location at the Big Red Barn and Rocky Top shelter in Gatlinburg through Friday December 9, 2016 from 9ET- site closing to issue birth, death, marriage and divorce records for events that occurred in TN at no charge. Driver’s license, passport or any other documents available may be presented for identification. If none is available an attestation statement may be signed by the requestor. Certified copies will be issued onsite. People may also call 855-809-0072 for assistance . Plans are also in place for onsite assistance two days next week.

The Tennessee Office of Vital Records reviews, registers, amends, issues and maintains the original certificates of births, deaths, marriages and divorces that occur in Tennessee in accordance with Tennessee Code Annotated.

NOTE to PARENTS: Certificates of Birth for newborn children may not be available to issue for approximately 45 days after this office receives the original certificate from the hospital or birthing facility. Expedite fees do not apply to the registration of the birth record, only the issuance of a certificate that is already registered.

If parents have travel plans which will require a passport for newborn children, travel plans should be made based on this timeline.
