Failure of a Minor Parent to Attend School

GOOD CAUSE

Table of Contents

 

Good Cause for failure to attend school or an alternate educational or training activity will be granted when:

 

·        The minor parent has a verified physical or mental medical reason that prevents attendance in an educational or training activity.

 

·        The minor parent’s child has a verified illness that requires the presence of the minor parent to care for the child.

 

·        The supportive services, such as child care, are not available and the Department cannot make them available.

 

·        The child of a minor single parent is less than 1 year of age.

 

·        The minor parent is participating in a drug or alcohol counseling program that prohibits his/her participation in school or other educational activities.

 

·        The minor parent has a documented emergency or catastrophe that is sufficient to interrupt school attendance or educational/training activity.  Work with the caretaker and/or the minor parent to ensure that the minor re-enters school or the educational/training activity as soon as possible
