-DHS ISSUES FAMILIES FIRST FUNDING ANNOUNCEMENT
NASHVILLE - The Tennessee Department of Human Services (DHS) has issued a Funding Announcement for Families First Alcohol and Drug Services to be provided for Fiscal Year (FY) 2002. Families First is the state's welfare reform program funded under the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) federal welfare block grant.
All alcohol and drug services provided to Families First participants are purchased form local community-based agencies across the state. This Funding Announcement requests proposals from agencies wishing to provide such services in their community. These grants will work in tandem with the Family Services Counseling program within Families First. The Families First Services unit has assessed the needs and determined what services are needed statewide for FY 2002. Agencies interested in this funding announcement should contact the Families Services Counseling/Alcohol and Drug Coordinator, Finney Clarkson, at (615) 313-5760, to find out what services will be purchased.
Proposals are due back to the Coordinator by June 1, 2001. Families First staff will assemble a team to rate proposals and decide which agencies will provide needed services. Announcements of grant awardees will be made by June 18, 2001. Grant periods will begin July 1, 2001.
Anyone interested in submitting a proposal to provide Families First Alcohol and Drug Services in their area should contact Ms. Clarkson for a copy of the Funding Announcement. An informational bidder's conference will be held May 8, 2001 at 1 pm on the 2nd floor of the Citizens Plaza Building, 400 Deaderick Street, in Nashville.
