The Tennessee Department of Human Services has received funding for the Child Care Development Fund through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. These federal dollars will be used for a child care scholarship program for low-income working families who are not eligible for existing child care assistance categories, such as Families First (Tennessee’s Temporary Assistance to Needy Families or TANF program).

The funding for this program is limited. Eligible children will be served with scholarship dollars until September 30, 2010, or until the funding is exhausted, whichever is sooner.
All state-licensed child care agencies (centers, group and family homes) are being invited to participate in this program. DHS anticipates it will be able to serve 7,000 children. Parents MUST be working at least 30 hours a week to be eligible or be a full-time student. Other eligibility requirements can be found here.
