A comprehensive home energy audit is conducted on every house to determine what weatherization measures will achieve maximums energy savings. These energy audits are conducted by the local Weatherization Agency using either agency staff or trained energy auditors on a contract basis. In general an energy auditor must have knowledge in residential energy-efficiency building science, skills necessary to utilize the National Energy Audit Tool (NEAT) and Manufactured Home Energy Audit (MHEA) tool, and access to advance diagnostic equipment (e.g. blower door). Each local Weatherization agency is responsible for the selection of the energy auditors for the projects in their service area. Individuals interested in working as an energy auditor should inquire with their local Weatherization agency to learn about minimum qualifications.
