Incumbent Worker Training Program Procedure

Through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA)

1. Develop your training program and needs assessment. Please keep Incumbent Worker Training program objectives in mind in your planning. (See Below)

Should be for the purpose of improving employee earning potential through the upgrade of skills and to assist in keeping businesses competitive to promote growth and avoid layoff.

2. Contact your Local Workforce Investment Area (LWIA) representative (LWIA contact). The Local Area will assist with the completion of the application and will submit to State.

3. Local Area will submit application to the State for approval.

4. Notification of final status within 15 working days of states receipt.

5. After affirmative notification and execution of contract with the Local Area, employer may start training.

6. Businesses will keep accurate records of the project's implementation process and certify that all information provided for the purpose of requesting reimbursements and reporting training activity is accurate and true.

7. As a requirement of WIA, a follow-up survey will be conducted by the University of Memphis, of all trainees. This survey is to determine customer satisfaction.
