The responsibility of the Boiler Division is to protect Tennessee citizens from the potential hazards involved in the operation of boilers and pressure vessels. The three categories of vessels that are inspected in the state of Tennessee are high pressure, low pressure, and unfired vessels.
The Boiler Division oversees all inspections of boilers, whether by the division itself (Deputy Boiler Inspectors) or boiler insurance companies (Special Boiler Inspectors). The division licenses boiler repair and erection companies to repair boilers and pressure vessels that are in the state of Tennessee (these repair and erection companies are located throughout the nation). There are more than 160 repair companies licensed to repair boilers and pressure vessels in Tennessee.
The Boiler Division also conducts quality control reviews for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors. The reviews are performed on companies that are in the state of Tennessee that manufacture and/or repair boilers and/or pressure vessels.
