LAKESHORE PASSES UNANNOUNCED CMS INSPECTION
HOSPITAL RECEIVES FAVORABLE REPORT AND RECOMMENDATION
NASHVILLE — Lakeshore Mental Health Institute recently received notification of full compliance with the CMS required conditions of participation for psychiatric hospitals. This report was based on an unscheduled CMS survey conducted at the facility on October 4, 2006. The final report received on Monday, November 20, 2006 granted recertification with no cited deficiencies.
“CMS surveys all facilities receiving Medicare and Medicaid funding to assure that all its beneficiaries receive quality care in a safe environment,” stated Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (TDMHSAS) Commissioner Virginia Trotter Betts. “Lakeshore has demonstrated the ability to provide quality services and thus has been awarded continued participation in the Medicare/Medicaid programs.”
Beginning October 2, the CMS team surveyed Lakeshore for three days to ensure the proper staffing effectiveness and therapeutic treatment by looking at the array of services provided throughout the continuum of care from admission to discharge. The review involved patient and staff interviews, medical record review, and direct observation of treatment in progress. Patients were also asked to evaluate their satisfaction with the services and care provided by the facility.
“I am extremely pleased with the final report from CMS,” commented Lee Thomas, Lakeshore Chief Officer. “I commend the efforts of each and every staff member here at Lakeshore. This outcome would not have been possible without their hard work and dedication to providing excellent patient care.”
Tennessee’s five Regional Mental Health Institutes, which are part of TDMHSAS, are JCAHO accredited and CMS certified psychiatric hospitals.
