LOCAL NURSE SELECTED FOR NATIONAL
SUBSTANCE ABUSE COMMITTEE

NASHVILLE—Dr. Freida Hopkins Outlaw, Chief Nurse and Executive Director of Special Populations and Minority Services at the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (TDMHSAS), was recently selected to join the Steering Committee for the National Quality Forum (NQF) project, evidence-based practices to treat substance-abuse disorders.

“Dr. Outlaw is an outstanding choice for this important project,” stated TDMHSAS Commissioner Virginia Trotter Betts. “Her experience and expertise in the field of mental health and substance abuse are excellent, and her dedication to quality services is reflected in her many accomplishments here at TDMHSAS.”

The purpose of this project, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, is to achieve national voluntary consensus on a set of effective, well-specified practices for the treatment of substance use disorders (SUD). Dr. Outlaw was nominated by the American Nurses Association, which is a member of the National Quality Forum.
