On May 8, Department of Safety and Homeland Security Commissioner Jeff Long and Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) Colonel Matt Perry welcomed the newest graduating classes of Tennessee State Troopers. Lateral Trooper Class 97 completed a rigorous 11-week training. Commissioner Jeff Long served as the keynote speaker during the graduation ceremony and delivered the oath of office as the graduating class was sworn in.

Nashville, TN—Today, the Tennessee Department of Education celebrated the expansion of the Education Freedom Scholarship (EFS) Program and announced remarkable results from the second year of implementation. Tennessee’s first-ever universal school choice program once again drew tremendous interest from families across the state, with a 99% renewal rate after the program’s inaugural year. In the 2026-27 school year, Governor Bill Lee and the General Assembly are empowering more Tennessee parents to choose the school that best fits their child’s needs by expanding the program by 15,000 seats. The Governor signed the legislation into law today, May 7, 2026.

The Commissioner of Financial Institutions hereby announces that the maximum effective rate of interest per annum for home loans as set by the General Assembly in 2025, Public Chapter 290, for the month of June 2026 is 10.32 percent per annum. The maximum effective rate of interest per annum for home loans shall be set at an amount equal to four (4) percentage points above the average prime offer rate (APOR), as defined in 12 CFR 1026.35, that applies to a thirty-year fixed loan, as published by the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC), or its successor federal entity. For the most recent APOR statistical data available preceding the date of this announcement, the calculated rate is 6.32 percent.

NASHVILLE--Commissioner of Financial Institutions Greg Gonzales announced today that the maximum effective formula rate of interest in Tennessee is 10.75 percent per annum. The rate is based on a ceiling of 4 percent over the weekly average prime loan rate of 6.75 percent as published by the Federal Reserve on May 4, 2026.
