  • Tennessee.Gov in Top Ten in State Web Technology

    NASHVILLE – The state of Tennessee has once again received high marks for innovative and effective use of information technology through its website, www.tn.gov. The Center for Digital Government’s 2010 Digital States Survey scored the state in the top ten across the nation, citing the state’s efforts toward technology consolation, reducing technology costs and improving IT security.  Tennessee ranked first in the nation in the area of public safety, and fourth among U.S. states in the area Health and Human Services for the state’s effort in the eHealth arena.

    NASHVILLE – Tennessee sales tax collections showed positive growth in September, as overall revenues grew compared to the same period last year. Finance and Administration Commissioner Dave Goetz reported today that overall September revenues were $977.5 million or 6.14% above September 2009 collections.

    NASHVILLE – State tax collections continue to show modest improvement. Finance and Administration Commissioner Dave Goetz today reported that overall August revenues were $749.3 million, which is 3.08% above August 2009 collections. 
     
    “Sales tax collections have shown positive growth for the past five consecutive months, and we believe it points to a slowly recovering economy in Tennessee,” Goetz said. “Still, we need to continue to closely monitor our spending patterns in the months ahead to keep the budget in a balanced posture for the next governor.”

    NASHVILLE – State sales tax revenues for July jumped with the largest monthly growth in over three years. Finance and Administration Commissioner Dave Goetz today reported July’s total revenue collections were up from July of last year. The last month in which sales tax collections exceeded this month’s growth rate was April of 2007.

    NASHVILLE – Total tax collections for June were below budgeted estimates, but recorded positive growth in sales and corporate taxes. Finance and Administration Commissioner Dave Goetz today announced that overall June revenues were $1.062 billion, which is $6.2 million less than the state budgeted. June sales tax collections represent consumer spending that took place in the month of May.

  • Tennessee's Volunteer Spirit Proves Even Stronger

    NASHVILLE – On the heels of recent flooding that brought out scores of volunteers to help clean up, a new report says Tennesseans who volunteer are more likely to keep volunteering than residents in other states.

    “Volunteering in America,” from the Corporation for National and Community Service, ranks Tennessee at number five in terms of volunteer retention, meaning that 73 percent of the state’s volunteers served throughout the entire year.  More than 1.3 million Tennessee residents volunteered in 2009, the most recent year for statistics, providing 162.2 million hours of service valued at more than $3.4 billion.
