    NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The viral photo of a Soldier saluting a funeral procession while standing in the rain has been identified.  Colonel Jack L. Usrey is the Senior Army Advisor to the Adjutant General at Tennessee National Guard Headquarters in Nashville.  While driving from Ft. Knox, KY last week, Col. Usrey met a funeral procession, stopped, got out of his vehicle and paid his respects to the deceased.

  • Haslam Opens Tennessee Volunteer ChalleNGe Academy

    NASHVILLE – Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam today officially opened the Tennessee Volunteer ChalleNGe Academy, an alternative residential program operated by the Tennessee National Guard that offers youth between ages 16-18 who have dropped out of school a chance to earn a high school equivalency diploma outside of a traditional school setting. The academy is housed at the site of the former Woodland Hills Youth Development Center in Nashville where Haslam was joined Friday by Deputy Gov. Jim Henry and Major General Max Haston for a ribbon cutting ceremony. The first class of approximately 100 cadets is set to begin July 9.

    Legislation provides tuition free higher education for eligible Tennessee National Guard Members

    NASHVILLE – In front of military personnel of the Tennessee Army and Air National Guard at the Tennessee Department of Military, Gov. Bill Haslam on Thursday signed the Tennessee STRONG Act that provides tuition free higher educational opportunities for eligible members of the Tennessee National Guard and supports the Drive to 55 goal to increase the number of Tennesseans with a degree or certificate to 55 percent by 2025.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Staff Sgt. Dustin Rottero, originally of Gladeville, was recognized as the Region III “Best Warrior” during a ceremony at the Wendell H. Ford Regional Training Center in Greenville, Ky. on April 26, 2017.  Rottero, a member of Tennessee’s Recruiting and Retention Battalion, edged out fellow competitors to earn the prestigious title and secured a spot at Camp Ripley, Minn., where the Army National Guard will hold the national competition in July.

    Tennessee Adjutant General Receives Danish Medal

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. – In a ceremony at the Tennessee National Guard Joint Force Headquarters in Nashville, Tenn., on March 27, Tennessee’s Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. Max Haston, received the Danish Home Guard Meritorious Service Medal. The award was presented by the commander of the Danish Home Guard, Maj. Gen. Finn Winkler, for spearheading the groundwork for future training opportunities between the Tennessee National Guard and the Danish Home Guard.
