    Six Part Free Series a First for Tennessee Tourism
     
    NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Tourist Development and the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation will sponsor a series of six Geo-Green Webinars as part of the Tennessee Sustainable Tourism initiative. The first Webinar will be held at 3 p.m. CDT on July 2. The Geo-Green Webinars are free and will be presented online at Gotomeeting.com.

    National Civil Rights Museum Hosts Sites of Conscience from Around the World

    MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Starting Friday, June 26, the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience is holding its first Summit at a US Site of Conscience – the National Civil Rights Museum. Leaders in human rights and heritage from Bangladesh, Argentina, Russia and South Africa, among others, are gathering in Memphis for the 2009 Sites of Conscience Summit. The International Coalition of Sites of Conscience is a worldwide network of historic sites, museums and memorials, like the National Civil Rights Museum, that remember the history of what happened at the site to open dialogue across differences on today’s important social issues. Each year, the International Coalition holds a Summit at a model Site of Conscience.

    NASHVILLE – Tourism Commissioner Susan Whitaker paid a visit to Mountain View Elementary School in Johnson City, Tenn. for the first grade class’s encore performance of the world-famous Grand Ole Opry. Commissioner Whitaker and other executive staff, along with Barb Schaetz, Grand Ole Opry representative, were in attendance to offer congratulations and make special presentations to the school, teacher Angie Baker and the more than 25 performing first graders.

    NASHVILLE – Tennessee has been named the No.1 Motorcoach State for 2009 by Byways magazine, one of the tourism industry’s most respected motorcoach publications. This ranking, based upon an annual survey of where U.S. motorcoach operators plan to bring tour groups in 2009, is good news for the $14.2 billion tourism industry in Tennessee.
