    The Department of Revenue offers several convenient and secure electronic filing and payment options to Tennessee taxpayers via the Internet. Electronic filing of the sales and use tax, consumer use tax, Hall income tax, professional privilege tax, and franchise and excise tax minimum pay returns, estimated payments and extensions is available at this site.

    The Department of Revenue is responsible for the administration of state tax laws established by the legislature and the collection of taxes and fees associated with those laws.

  • Vehicle Title & Registration

    Commonly requested information for vehicle title & registration can be found at this site. County clerks in each of Tennessee's 95 counties across the state register vehicles and assist with title transactions.     The Motor Carrier Section is a one-stop shop for commercial vehicles providing base-state vehicle registration and titling, (International Registration Plan), quarterly fuel tax reporting (International Fuel Tax Agreement) and proof of insurance requirements (Single State Registration System and Intrastate Authority).

  • Taxpayer Education

    Revenue devotes many resources to taxpayer education. Free tax workshops for new businesses are offered bimonthly in Nashville, Chattanooga, Johnson City, Knoxville and Memphis. Annual tax seminars for businesses are offered through universities statewide. A Speakers Bureau is also available through the department for certain types of organizations at no charge.

    Information specifically for Tennessee's county clerks and local city officials is posted at this site. Local government officials can find information regarding business tax and sales and use tax, as well as important notices, tax rulings and other Revenue news.

  • Prevent and Report Tax Fraud

    Fraud is a deception deliberately practiced in order to secure unfair or unlawful gain. As it relates to taxes, it's simply "cheating" by intentionally paying less tax than is legally due. Created in 1976, the Tennessee Department of Revenue's Special Investigations Section (SI) was modeled after the Internal Revenue Service's Criminal Investigative Division. Today more than 20 staff members work in the unit's three offices in Nashville, Memphis and Knoxville.
