    Memphis, Tenn. - The Tennessee Department of Revenue's Special Investigations Section conducted the investigation that led to yesterday's guilty plea of Yaser Alhalemi. Alhalemi, age 42, appeared before Shelby County Criminal Court Judge John W. Campbell. Alhalemi was partners with his brother, Anter, at Lucky's No. 3, a convenience store located in Memphis.

  • Former Knox County Business Owner Pleads to Sales Tax Evasion Charges

    Knoxville, Tenn. - On May 23, 2013, Brahim Mazouzi, former owner of Magnolia Market, located in Knoxville, entered a Best Interest plea to two counts of tax evasion in Knox County Criminal Court. Knox County Judge Steven Sword sentenced Mazouzi, age 44, to four years’ probation and ordered him to pay restitution to the state in the amount of $25,521.59. The Special Investigations Section of the Tennessee Department of Revenue conducted the investigation that led to the plea and sentencing of Mazouzi.

  • Wilson County Man Pleads Guilty to Tax Evasion

    Mt. Juliet, Tenn. - The Special Investigations Sections of the Tennessee Department of Revenue conducted the investigation that led to a May 10, 2013 guilty plea by Frederick C. Ritter, age 69, of Mt. Juliet to one count of tax evasion. Wilson County Criminal Court Judge David Durham sentenced Ritter to one year probation and ordered him to pay full restitution to the state.

    Somerville, Tenn. - The Special Investigations Section of the Tennessee Department of Revenue conducted the investigation that led to the May 9, 2013 guilty plea of Gerald J. Pulliam. Circuit Court Judge J. Weber McCraw accepted Pulliam's guilty plea to one count of sales tax evasion in violation of Tenn. Code Ann. Section 67-1-1440(g), a Class E felony; and one count of filing a false report to a law enforcement officer in violation of Tenn. Code Ann. Section 39-16-502, a Class D felony.

    Jacksboro, Tenn. - On March 25, 2013, Riyaz Kherani, owner of Avon Amoco, located in Jellico, entered a plea of Nolo Contendere to two counts of tax evasion in Campbell County Criminal Court. Campbell County Judge Shayne Sexton sentenced Kherani, age 47, to two years probation and ordered him to pay restitution to the state in the amount of $43,074.29. The Special Investigations Section of the Tennessee Department of Revenue conducted the investigation that led to the plea and sentencing of Kherani, a resident of Knoxville, Tennessee.

Judge David Patterson, Putnam County Criminal Court, accepted Patel's guilty plea to one count of theft property over $10,000.00, a Class C felony, and ordered him to pay $26,692.34 in restitution to the state of Tennessee. Patel was placed on eighteen months unsupervised probation.
