REVENUE ANNOUNCES NEW DIRECTOR OF TAXPAYER SERVICES
LINDA KELLEY JOINS MANAGEMENT TEAM
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - This week, Tennessee Department of Revenue Commissioner Loren L. Chumley announced Linda Kelley as the department's new director of Taxpayer Services. Kelley will lead this division that serves as the customer-service unit of the agency, providing taxpayer education and tax registration activities. She also will serve as a liaison with other government agencies and members of the private sector.
Kelley brings more than 20 years of management experience to Revenue. Prior to joining the department, she provided consulting and communications management and services for various companies and governmental agencies. A Nashville native, Kelley earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
"We are excited to add Linda's knowledge and talents to our skilled leadership team as we maintain our commitment to education as one of Revenue's top priorities," said Revenue Commissioner Loren L. Chumley.
The Department of Revenue collects approximately 92 percent of total state tax revenue. During the 2004-2005 fiscal year, the department collected $9.6 billion in state taxes and fees. In addition to collecting state taxes, $1.7 billion of local sales tax was collected by the department for local governments during the 2004-2005 fiscal year. Besides collecting taxes, the department enforces the revenue laws fairly and impartially in an effort to encourage voluntary taxpayer compliance. The department also apportions revenue collections for distribution to the various state funds and local units of government. To learn more about the department, log on to www.Tennessee.gov/revenue.
