Deputy Commissioner Greta Dajani

Department of Safety Deputy Commissioner Greta Dajani.Deputy Commissioner Greta Dajani has dedicated 36 years to public service, including 14 years as Director of the Food Stamp Program with the Department of Human Services. Mrs. Dajani was instrumental in implementing the program in counties across Tennessee.  She also successfully promoted a state law which brought the program to all counties, making Tennessee one of the first states in the nation to have a statewide food stamp program.

During her tenure as Food Stamp Director, Dajani was honored on the national level with the prestigious Howard L. Russell Memorial Merit Award. This honor is given by the American Public Welfare Association in recognition of important contributions to the development of public welfare policies, programs and services. 

Mrs. Dajani also spent several years at the Metro Development and Housing Administration in Nashville, where she was Director of General Services.  In that role, she supervised the agency’s budget, procurement, grant administration, personnel, training, quality control for public housing and the emergency food program for Davidson County.

She is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and is a native of Coffee County. Mrs. Dajani is married and has three children.
