Closure Advisories

The Chattanooga/Red Bank Driver Services Center temporarily closed for a planned remodel on Monday, March 2, 2026.

Dickson Driver Services Center reopened on Monday, Feb. 23.

The Germantown City Hall Self-Service Kiosk is temporarily closed.

Driver Services are temporarily unavailable at the Carter County Clerk.

Driver Services Appointments

Scheduling an appointment allows a customer to be served at a select Driver Services Centers on a specific day and time. Appointments are not available at all Driver Services Centers. The type of appointment available may vary by location.

You should arrive at the Driver Services Center 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time.  If you are late to your appointment, it may be cancelled, and you will be treated as a walk-in customer.

Citizens can make an appointment for many Driver Services transactions including:

  • Real ID
  • Name or Address change
  • Issuance, Renewal, and Replacement for all types of license or permit
  • Knowledge Test 

New or returning residents are encouraged to fill out Driver License application in e-Services before arriving at a center.

To make an appointment, click the link below and then choose Schedule an Appointment. For your service, select Driver License Appointment. You must provide a valid email address and phone number to secure an appointment.

If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, go back into the Online Ticketing System, and click on My Appointments. Enter the phone number you entered when scheduling the appointment. You can then cancel or reschedule your appointment.

*Please note if you are under the age of 16 or from out of state you cannot schedule a road test online. 

To schedule a Commercial Driver License Road Skills Test at a Driver Services Center call 615-502-4179 Monday to Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Central. 

To schedule a Commercial Driver License Road Skills Test with a certified CDL third party testing organization, contact the organization.

Note: Third party testing organizations may charge additional fees for the skills test.

Note: Driver Services Centers will stop accepting new applicants before the posted closing time to be able to help all the current applicants before closing.

Note: County Clerk and Other Partner service hours and operations may vary. They also have an additional $4.00 administrative fee to cover operational costs.

Note: Commercial Driver License (CDL), Temporary Licenses/Photo ID (X-Series) or, Non-Expiring Licenses (Permanent ID, Code 30) transactions cannot be processed on the self-service kiosks.

Note: The self-service kiosks cannot accept cash or check. A credit or debit card is required to use a self-service kiosk.

FAQs

Full-Service Centers: Offer knowledge, skills and vision testing services, GDL upgrade, MVR driving records, reinstatement services, and Driver License, REAL ID, photo ID and handgun permit issuance, replacement, and renewal.

Express Service Centers: Offer Driver License, REAL ID, photo ID and handgun permit replacement and renewal, GDL upgrade and MVR driving records.

CDL Skills Test Centers: Full-Service Driver Services Centers that offer Commercial Driver License Road Skills Tests.

Self-Service Kiosks: Offer Driver License replacement and renewal. These machines, located across Tennessee, can take photos, print new licenses, and accept payments with a credit or debit card.

County Clerk & Other Partners: Offer Driver License replacement and renewal of Non-Commercial Driver License only.

Handgun Carry Policy

Customers are prohibited from bringing firearms on Driver Services Center premises.
