Nashville, Tennessee --- The Tennessee Department of Safety (TDOS) is offering citizens the ability to restore their driving privileges by expanding its online suite of services. Citizens needing to restore a canceled, suspended or revoked driver license can often avoid a trip to a driver license station or reinstatement office by simply logging onto www.tennessee.gov/safety.
The new online system provides citizens with a quick and convenient method for reinstating their driving privileges. By logging on to the system, citizens are able to access their individual record and learn the exact requirements necessary for reinstatement. Additionally, they are able to monitor each step of the reinstatement process online as well as pay any fees owed to the state with a valid debit or credit card.
"With the new online system, the reinstatement process has been simplified for many citizens," said Tennessee Department of Safety Commissioner Fred Phillips. "All the information required for restoring one's driving privileges is in one central location and easily accessible to citizens anytime of the day or night."
To ensure the integrity and security of the online reinstatement process, specific personal information is required to access the site. Once a citizen has entered and certified their information, they are able to determine the specific requirements necessary to restore their driving privileges. As these requirements are fulfilled, the driver's record will automatically be updated in the system. Additionally, reinstatement fees owed to the state can be paid with either a credit or debit card. Note that local fees that may be owed are paid separately, directly to the local courts.
"As the development of the online reinstatement process has evolved, we have monitored the processes and procedures very closely. We have thoroughly tested the reliability of the process and are confident it will provides citizens with a simple and quick way to restore their driving privileges," said Commissioner Phillips.
In addition to the new reinstatement service, citizens can also renew their driver license and notify the state of a change in address without making a trip to their local driver license station. TDOS is in the process of bringing additional services online in the coming months including graduated driver license and duplicate services.
"Added convenience and access to the department's core services remains a priority of the Department," added Commissioner Phillips.
