Nashville, Tennessee --- The Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Tennessee Trucking Association will conduct truck inspections at the I-24 rest area in Monteagle on Thursday, June 16th. The event is part of a joint effort to emphasize truck safety and to make roads safer for all travelers.
Truck safety is a priority in Tennessee. Between July of 2003 and April of 2004, State Troopers in Tennessee conducted 50,182 vehicle inspections. Between July of 2004 and April of 2005, that figure increased to 61,379 inspections.
The event starts at 7:45am CDT and runs until 2:00pm CDT. Officials from the states of Georgia and Alabama will also be on hand to provide information and answer questions about regulations in their states.
The Tennessee Department of Safety's mission is (www.tennessee.gov/safety) to ensure the safety and general welfare of the public. The department encompasses the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Office of Homeland Security and Driver License Services. General areas of responsibility include law enforcement, safety education, motorist services and terrorism prevention.
