Nashville, Tennessee --- The Tennessee Department of Safety (TDOS) and Shelby County Clerk Jayne Creson announced today the formation of a partnership that allows residents to complete several of the most common driver license transactions at the County Clerk's Office. Residents are now able to renew a driver license, obtain a duplicate for a lost or stolen license and/or notify the state of a change in address while conducting business at the Clerk's main office on Washington Avenue in Memphis.
"Through this innovative partnership, we hope to provide residents of Shelby County with greater, more convenient, efficient service," said TDOS Commissioner Fred Phillips. "It's essential that we look for non-traditional alternatives that make it easier for citizens to access the department's core services, such as driver license renewals."
The Shelby County Clerk is the 29 th county clerk in the state to partner with the Department of Safety on access to driver license services. While the partnership offers residents a new option, some services still require a visit to a TDOS driver license station. Residents of Shelby County requiring knowledge or skills testing, commercial driver license services or reinstatement services still need to visit one of the three full-service driver license stations in the area. Those stations are located at the following addresses:
3200 East Shelby Drive, Memphis (Whitehaven)
Residents can also obtain driver license renewal and duplicate services at the express service station located at 6075 Winchester Road, Suite 525 , Memphis (Hickory Ridge Mall).
Generally, the County Clerk 's office is able to process services for Class D licenses or state identification cards. Residents should also know that the Shelby County Clerk will charge an additional $8.00 fee on top of required state fees to cover their operational costs. That means a $19.50 renewal will cost $27.50 at the County Clerk 's Office.
"In addition to our partnership with the County Clerk 's office, citizens are able to renew their driver license, change their address and reinstate their license online," added Commissioner Phillips. "More and more citizens are choosing to use our online services because they are simple, secure and fast."
