New Driver License Testing Station to Open in Weakley County

June 27, 2005

Nashville, Tennessee --- The Tennessee Department of Safety (TDOS) will open a new driver license station in Weakley County on June 29th. The new 5,000 square-foot facility is located at 8598 Highway 22 in Dresden. The larger, modern facility replaces the current Morrow Road location. Operating hours will be Tuesday through Friday from 7:30am to 6:00pm. The facility will open an hour later on the second Wednesday of each month. It will also be the operations center for the Tennessee Highway Patrol in Weakley County.

The current driver license station on Morrow Road will be closed for business on Tuesday, June 28th, in order to complete the move. The new station will open for business at 7:30am on Wednesday.

"Providing greater access to and better efficiency of all driver license needs remains a top priority of the department," said TDOS Commissioner Fred Phillips. "Not only will the new driver license station in Dresden vastly improve our ability to efficiently service the needs of our customers, but we've also implemented new time-saving features for renewal and duplicate customers." The demand for Department of Safety services has steadily increased in Weakley County. In 2000, the site was open only one day per week, and served around 80 customers each week. Now, the site is open four days per week, and serves around 100 customers each day.

TDOS reminds citizens they can often avoid a trip to a driver license station by visiting the department's website at www.tennessee.gov/safety, where many common driver license services are available online. Online services include renewals, duplicates, reinstatements and change of address requests.
