Nashville, Tennessee --- The Tennessee Department of Safety released results today from the Tennessee Highway Patrol's (THP) roadside inspection event held Friday, September 1 at the I-81 Scale Complex in Greene County. The checkpoint was held in conjunction with the Tennessee Trucking Association with the goal of educating and familiarizing the Trucking Industry with the procedures of the THP's Commercial Enforcement Program and to promote cooperation and understanding between the trucking industry and enforcement personnel.
During the event 1,260 trucks passed through the checkpoint. A total of 24 citations were issued along with seven assessments, for a total of $13,590.80 in penalties. Ten commercial vehicles and seven commercial drivers were placed out of service for safety violations. Two arrests were also made, one for driving on a revoked license and the other for possession of narcotics.
Other agencies who participated in the checkpoint with the THP were: Tennessee Trucking Association, Homeland Security, T.E.M.A., Tennessee Department of Revenue, and the Tennessee Association of Rescue Squads.
Representing the Highway Patrol was Lieutenant Colonel Tracy Trott, Captain Richard Dean Hurley, Lieutenant James McKenzie, Sergeant David Burns, Sergeant Rhonda Phillips, and Troopers Jeff Appleba, Billy Banner, Vince Mullins and Julian Robinson.
