Bedford EMA Employee Commended for Saving Customer's Life

Nashville, Tennessee --- Commissioner Dave Mitchell will present a Certificate of Appreciation from Governor Phil Bredesen and the Office of Homeland Security and a Certificate of Commendation from the Tennessee Department of Safety to a Bedford County Emergency Management agency employee when he addresses the Shelbyville Rotary Club Thursday. Jessica Doak is being recognized for her quick thinking and actions last month when she performed CPR on a customer in the Bedford County Driver License Center. Doak is credited with saving the woman’s life.

Jessica Doak is an Operations Officer for the Bedford County Emergency Management Agency and oversees the HAZMAT team and Technical Rescue team. Doak was in the Driver License Station when the customer experienced heart failure. Doak responded to the request for help and found that the customer had no pulse. After performing CPR, the customer’s heart started again. She was transported by Life Fight to Nashville, and today is recuperating.

The department encompasses the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Office of Homeland Security and Driver License Services. General areas of responsibility include law enforcement, safety education, motorist services and terrorism prevention.
