>>Index of Current News Releases<< October 10, 2008 MEDIA ADVISORY Nashville, Tennessee --- The Tennessee Highway Patrol will be participating in “Wings & Wheels on the Greene” air show this Saturday, October 11, 2008. THP’s Special Operations Unit will have its Bell Helicopter UH-1H, commonly known as the “Huey,” on display at this free community-wide event which takes place at the Greeneville Airport from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Special Operations will also conduct a mock “rescue” during the show. WHO: Tennessee Highway Patrol Special Operations Unit WHAT: “Wings & Wheels on the Greene” WHEN: Saturday, October 11, 2008 WHERE: Greeneville/Greene County Municipal Airport The Huey is multi-purpose helicopter, known as the military’s workhorse. THP uses the aircraft in various scenarios, including rescues. During Saturday’s event, five members of the Special Operations unit will reenact a rescue they actually performed approximately three months ago using the Huey helicopter. The demonstration will include rescuing an “injured” patient by hoisting him in what’s called a Stokes Basket. The Tennessee Department of Safety’s mission is (www.tennessee.gov/safety) to ensure the safety and general welfare of the public. The department encompasses the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Office of Homeland Security and Driver License Services. General areas of responsibility include law enforcement, safety education, motorist services and terrorism prevention.
