1st Lieutenant William Eric Emmert (State Trooper 2000-2007)

1st Lieutenant William Eric Emmert, a TBI Special Agent and former Tennessee State Trooper, was killed in action February 24, 2009, while serving his country in Mosul, Iraq.

Emmert, 36, of Fayetteville, TN, was deployed in January 2009 to serve as a platoon leader assigned to the 269th Military Police Company, 117th Military Police Battalion, of the Tennessee National Guard in Murfreesboro, TN.

Eric Emmert began his career in law enforcement when he was hired as a State Trooper on July 2, 2000. A member of Class1200, Emmert’s time as a Trooper was spent on the road in Lincoln County in the Lawrenceburg District, as well as the Governor’s Security Detail in 2005. He was transferred to TBI on September 16, 2007, where he served as a Special Agent assigned to TBI’s Criminal Investigation Division in Lincoln and Moore Counties.

Eric graduated from Lebanon High School in 1991 and joined the Army, serving active duty in Korea, Germany and Cuba from 1991-1996 as a Counter Intelligence Agent. He entered the Tennessee National Guard in 1996 and graduated cum laude with a degree in Criminal Justice from MTSU in 1999.

Former Trooper Emmert was buried in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Lebanon, TN with full military honors, Wednesday, March 4, 2009.
