Celebrate National Voter Registration Month in September!

According to information from the U.S. Census Bureau, about three out of 10 adults across our country who are eligible to vote aren't registered. The good news is that there's an easy remedy for that problem.

That's why Secretary of State Tre Hargett is calling on people across Tennessee to celebrate National Voter Registration Month by registering to vote themselves - if they haven't already - and encouraging friends and neighbors to register.

Unofficial election results for state and federal races will be posted on after the polls close Thursday night. However, due to the length of the ballot, county election officials may be reporting those results more slowly than usual.


Call the State's Toll-Free Elections Hotline for Answers to Voting Questions

As Tennesseans head to the polls Thursday, Secretary of State Tre Hargett is encouraging them to call the state Division of Elections' toll-free hotline number if they have questions or concerns about voting or the electoral process. That number is 1-877-850-4959.

For more than 200 years, Tennessee has been known as "the Volunteer State." That nickname dates back to the War of 1812, when the state contributed thousands of volunteers toward the war effort. The tradition was reinforced a few decades later in the Mexican War when the state produced  more than10 times the number of recruits Washington requested - and that proud tradition still lives on today.

The Division of Elections is headed by the Coordinator of Elections, Mark Goins, who oversees the election process in the State of Tennessee. The Coordinator of Elections works directly with ninety-five (95) local county election commissions, candidates and the public on election related issues.  The county election commissions are appointed by the State Election Commission.  There are ninety-five (95) county election commission offices throughout the State.
