Welcome to the online training program for lobbyists registered in Tennessee. Successful completion of this program will satisfy your mandatory training requirement pursuant to T.C.A. §3-6-1-114 for the 2009 registration year.
Sponsored by the Tennessee Ethics Commission
As a lobbyist registered in Tennessee, you are obligated to pursue a course of conduct consistent with maintaining the public’s confidence. Lobbyists also have special registration and reporting requirements. Taxpayers, government officials and others must be assured that the business of State government is conducted fairly and ethically.
In 2006, Tennessee passed the Comprehensive Ethics Reform Act. This legislation, which established an independent Tennessee Ethics Commission to interpret and enforce the ethics laws, includes, among other provisions, restrictions on lobbyists and their employers from offering certain gifts to covered state officials, and from making campaign contributions to candidates for statewide elected office.
This program explains ethics laws in easy-to-understand language. Explanations of the laws are provided and are followed by a series of “real life” examples to test your understanding. The examples are meant to illustrate pertinent sections of the law and not to trick you. They are not meant for use as legal advice. For questions regarding the requirements of the law, you are encouraged to contact the Tennessee Ethics Commission.
