How do I know if I am in the “Daniels class”?
If you currently are on TennCare and you once received Supplemental Security Income (SSI) but no longer do, you are most likely a member of the Daniels class. This means that unless the state already has enough personal information about you, you will be receiving a letter in the mail asking for updated information. This is called a request for information or RFI. This RFI is also known as "the peach pages". Filling out this paperwork and sending it back to us will allow the state to see if you qualify in an open Medicaid category. Click here to see what the letter looks like.
If I get a re-verification letter in the mail, does that mean I will lose my TennCare?
No, if you get a letter in the mail, it means the state needs updated personal information about you. This will allow the state to check and see if you qualify for TennCare in an open Medicaid category. After the state looks over the information you send in, we will send you another letter if you no longer qualify for TennCare benefits. If the information you send in within 30 days shows you do qualify for Medicaid, you will keep your TennCare without any gap in coverage. Click here to see all open Medicaid categories in Tennessee.
What should I do if I get a re-verification letter?
You should fill out the paperwork and send it back to your local Department of Human Services (DHS) office. You can also drop the information off at your local DHS office. Click here to find out where your local DHS office is located. The state can then determine if you qualify for an open Medicaid category. If the state does not receive your updated information, you may lose your TennCare. This is why it is very important to return the paperwork.
How long do I have to turn in my updated information?
You will have 30 days from when the letter was mailed to send the information back to the state. If the state does not receive your information within 30 days, you will be sent a termination letter and another request for information.
What if I need help filling out the paperwork?
If you need help, you can call or stop by your local DHS office. Click here to locate your DHS office. You need to let them know within 30 days of receiving the letter that you need help. You can also call the Family Assistance Service Center for free at 1-866-311-4287. If you have mental illness and need help, call the TennCare Partners Advocacy Line (TPAL) at 1-800-758-1638.
What do I do if I get a termination letter?
If you have returned your paperwork and then get a letter in the mail saying you no longer qualify for TennCare benefits, you have the right to appeal. Information on how to appeal will be sent with your termination letter. Click here for more information on how to file an appeal.
