Path to College Events
Path to College Events consist of four statewide events designed to create and foster a college-going culture in Tennessee high schools. The events serve as a venue to inform students and their families of college opportunities and benefits while also providing information about Tennessee Promise requirements and deadlines. To implement Path to College Events, the College Access and Success Division creates and disseminates resources, guides, and collateral materials for use by educators. Additionally, THEC staff host webinars with college access professionals on how to maximize the impact Path to College Events has on their students and school culture.
The four Path to College events include:
- College App Week- College Application Week (also referred to as College App Week), is held each fall, aims to build excitement and enthusiasm around the college application process and provide every graduating senior with the opportunity to apply to college.
- TN FAFSA Frenzy- A statewide collaboration with Tennessee Higher Education Commission, Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation, Tennessee Department of Education, tnAchieves, REDI and the Ayers Foundation, TN FAFSA Frenzy is a statewide campaign throughout the FAFSA filing season that includes high school and postsecondary events and regional counselor trainings.
- College Signing Day- On College Signing Day, high schools devote one day to celebrate their seniors who are continuing on to postsecondary education and build educational aspiration among underclassmen through a school-wide assembly or pep rally where each senior’s college choice (college is defined as any type of formal postsecondary training) is announced and celebrated.
- College Planning Night- High schools are encouraged to host an after school event for high school juniors and their parents where information about the college search, college application process and financial aid are discussed. Students and their parents are expected to leave College Planning Night with a clear idea of how to continue their college search process over the summer and successfully complete the application and enrollment process the following year.
