Greene County Stories

I have seen many people I cared for impacted by addiction.

I became involved in a relationship with another lawyer, one that clerked for a Tennessee Supreme Court Justice. He suffered an ailment and was given Oxycontin and took it as prescribed. He became addicted, and it ruined his life. He completed a program and went to a rehab facility twice. He lost his job, child, home and every meaningful relationship.

Also, two close friends were impacted. The drive to succeed pushed them past normal physical endurance, causing each of them aches, pains and injuries. These friends were from well-known families, athletes and college educated. They were given Oxycontin as students. They, too, took it as prescribed.

When the opportunity presented itself to sue the opioid manufacturers and distributors, I jumped on board. I knew we could bring the fight to Tennessee. Today, our group has filed on behalf of 13 counties statewide as well as counties across the nation against the drug manufacturers and distributors. This fight is personal to Tennessee, and it’s my passion to help eradicate this disease.
