The application period for Meeman Shelby Forest pools is September 7th through midnight September 28, 2016.
 

 

Frequently Asked Questions

Special Rules & Regulations
  • Hunters selected for a pool/blind site may bring up to four additional hunters. No more than five hunters per pool or blind. No pool may be hunted unless a hunter selected for that assigned pool and date is present.

    All hunters must possess:
    • A valid blind conformation number issued by TWRA or be accompanied by a hunter that has a valid confirmation number
    • A picture identification
    • All appropriate license and permits
       
  • Hunters may leave in place decoys and a temporary blind at their blind site during their assigned hunt date, but must remove all decoys and blind materials at the end of their last hunt date.
  • Waterfowl hunting ends at 3:00 p.m. each day of the hunt.
  • Driving or disturbing waterfowl by the use of motorized vehicle is a federal violation and violators will be prosecuted.

Any violation of rules and regulations will result in prosecution and cancelation of the hunt.

Site 1 - Eagle Lake Pool

Location/Directions:  Eagle Lake Pool – N 35.29945 W 90.08099

Shelby Forest WMA.  From Millington go south on HWY 51 until you reach North Watkins.  Take a right on North Watkins (headed Northwest).  Go 2.8 miles and take a left on Robertson Road.  Take Robertson Road 0.7 miles until it dead ends into Benjenstown Road.  Take a Right on Benjenstown Road.  Take Benjenstown road 1.7 miles until you come to the intersection of (Island 40 Road).  Take a left on Island 40 Road.  At 0.9 miles you will run into the entrance of Shelby Forest WMA.  Take gravel road until you reach parking lot of Eagle Lake Pool.

There is a very small boat ramp (little elevation change) located on the south end of the parking lot.  Only one boat can launch at a time.  Depending on water levels, launching a boat will be very difficult.  Therefore, we recommend small/lightweight boats that can be handle very easily to be used. 

Hunt Dates:  Thursday, Friday, and Saturday during the waterfowl season

Cover:  Eagle Lake is a natural flooded cypress swamp.  Blind sites are located in the middle of  several large cypress trees with a large open pool in front of site for decoys.

Site 2 - Eagle Lake Pool

Location/Directions:  Below Poplar Tree Lake Levee – N 35.306641 W 90.075133

Shelby Forest WMA.  From Millington go south on HWY 51 until you reach North Watkins.  Take a right on North Watkins (headed Northwest).  Take North Watkins 6.9 miles until it dead ends.  Take a left.  You will go straight through a four way stop.  After 2.4 miles from North Watkins, take a right at the park entrance.  Stay straight through the stop sign and follow all the way to poplar tree lake levee (1.9 miles).

 Parking will be located on the right side of the road.  Continue to walk down Poplar Tree Lake levee to site location.  Access will be limited to foot travel only.

Cover:  This location is a natural flooded cypress swamp.  Blind sites are located in the middle of several large cypress trees with a large open pool in front of site for decoys.  There is no boat access to this particular location.

Location/Directions:  South Hole below swimming pool area – N 35.31366 W90.06773

Shelby Forest WMA.  From Millington go south on HWY 51 until you reach North Watkins.  Take a right on North Watkins (headed Northwest).  Take North Watkins 6.9 miles until it dead ends.  Take a left.  You will go straight through a four way stop.  After 2.4 miles from North Watkins, take a right at the park entrance.  Stay straight through the stop sign and follow all the way to just before the swimming pool (0.6 miles).

Parking will be located on the right side of the road.  Walk down the bluff to site location.  Access will be limited to foot travel only.

Cover:  This location is a natural flooded cypress swamp.  Blind sites are located in the middle of several large cypress trees with a large open pool in front of site for decoys.  There is no boat access to this particular location.
